Swedish Electronics Collaborates for Critical Electronics Supply
Svensk Elektronik, in collaboration with the industry association IPC and several other actors, has launched the Critical Electronics Supply Initiative, which has been presented to the European Commission. This initiative aims to strengthen Europe's capacity in electronics and ensure a robust supply chain.
The EU's electronics independence has been identified as a critical vulnerability. In response, the EU has launched several strategic initiatives, including the Chips Act, which are important steps towards strengthening the region's semiconductor capacity. Svensk Elektronik is actively working on the semiconductor issue and on June 17 presented proposals for a national strategy in the area.
However, focusing solely on semiconductors is insufficient to ensure Europe’s security and competitiveness. A holistic approach that also includes increased capacity for printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing and electronic assembly is necessary. This is supported by a new industry study that highlights the importance of strengthening Europe’s electronics ecosystem. The report, which can be read here, emphasizes the need to reduce strategic dependencies and build capabilities for future prosperity and security.
Svensk Elektronik has also informed the Ministry of Enterprise, Industry and Communications and Swedish members of the EU Parliament ahead of the EU Commission meeting on June 27 and 28. The initiative underlines the importance of collaboration between private and public sectors to achieve a competitive and resilient European electronics industry.
