Response to the AI Commission's roadmap
Svensk Elektronik welcomes the AI Commission's roadmap and its ambition to strengthen Sweden's position in artificial intelligence. At the same time, we see a need to highlight the central role that the electronics industry plays in enabling powerful, secure and sustainable AI solutions.
The roadmap focuses largely on software development – but without advanced hardware, AI will never reach its full potential. The electronics industry is a key player, not least in areas such as semiconductor technology, sensors and embedded systems, all of which form the basis for AI applications in areas such as defense, healthcare, industry, transportation and energy systems.
Some of our most important messages in the consultation response:
- Include the electronics industry in the AI strategy. We call for clear recognition of our sector's role as an enabler of AI.
- Strengthen research in electronics and hardware. Sweden needs to invest more in energy-efficient processors, integrated system solutions and security-enabled hardware.
- Invest in skills development. The AI ecosystem requires not only software developers but also expertise in electronics design and hardware-related programming.
- Create better forms of collaboration between industry and academia. We propose new centers of excellence and jointly funded R&D projects.
- Expand testing infrastructure. More test beds and better opportunities for small and medium-sized companies to test their solutions are needed.
- Integrate sustainability. AI development must take into account energy consumption and circular solutions for electronics
We look forward to continued dialogue with the government and other stakeholders to ensure that Sweden takes a leading position in AI – with a strong electronics industry as a foundation.
