Follow-up meeting: National collaboration on strategy for PCB and electronics production
Welcome to a follow-up meeting for National collaboration on strategy for PCB and electronics production!
Background:
Svensk Elektronik has, in collaboration with the industry organization IPC and several other players, launched Critical Electronics Supply Initiative, which has been presented to the European Commission. This initiative aims to strengthen Europe's electronics manufacturing capacity and ensure a robust supply chain.
At the first meeting, which took place on October 2, 2024, we informed those of you who work with PCB and electronics production in Sweden about the initiative and what needs to be done nationally. We also gathered your opinions and input for further work towards an expanded Chips Act that also includes PCB and electronics assembly.
There was a fantastic turnout for that meeting and it is clear that the topic is very important. We appreciate all the commitment and input that comes in from our members.
We would now like to invite you to a follow-up meeting where we will, among other things, report on the latest meeting with representatives from the Council of Europe and how the initiative is developing.
A link to the digital meeting is included in the confirmation email sent after you register.
We hope that as many people as possible will participate in the meeting and we look forward to your valuable insights and input. A warm welcome!
More about the initiative:
The EU's dependence on electronics has been identified as a critical vulnerability. In response, the EU has launched several strategic initiatives, including the Chips Act, which are important steps towards strengthening the region's semiconductor capacity. Svensk Elektronik is actively working on the semiconductor issue and on June 17 presented proposals for a national strategy in the area.
However, focusing solely on semiconductors is insufficient to ensure Europe’s security and competitiveness. A holistic approach that also includes increased capacity for printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing and electronics assembly is necessary. This is supported by a new industry study that highlights the importance of strengthening Europe’s electronics ecosystem. The report, which can be read here, emphasizes the need to reduce strategic dependencies and build capabilities for future prosperity and security.
Svensk Elektronik has informed the Ministry of Enterprise, Industry and Communications and Swedish members of the EU Parliament ahead of the EU Commission meeting on June 27 and 28. The initiative underlines the importance of collaboration between private and public sectors to achieve a competitive and resilient European electronics industry.
