Coming soon – Cybersecure IoT handbook
Products connected to the internet are becoming an increasingly important part of the digitalization of our society. Development is fast, more and more is being connected and interconnected, and the Internet of Things (IoT) will soon affect all sectors of society. The strategic innovation programs Smarter Electronics Systems and IoT Sweden, together with Svensk Elektronik, are currently developing a new handbook for the development of cyber-secure IoT products.
Target group developers and designers
At the same time as the development of IoT is accelerating, the need for security has also increased. Cyberattacks of various kinds are becoming increasingly common against both the private and public sectors. Laws, regulations and industry requirements also affect and place increasingly clear cybersecurity requirements on the handling of IoT. IoT Sweden wants to increase the use of IoT in the public sector to create societal benefits and equal digital conditions for everyone.
The primary target audience for the handbook is developers and designers of IoT products.
– Cybersecurity needs to be included throughout the entire lifecycle of an IoT product. Therefore, this handbook should include advice from the IoT product's idea stage and development until it is put into operation and further when it is to be scrapped, or used for something else. Cybersecurity should be included in all stages, says Thorbjörn Ebefors, acting program manager at Smarter Electronics Systems.
More actors are welcome
Svensk Elektronik has also been involved in the development of Smarter Electronics Handbook 2.0 together with Smarter electronic systems. The new handbook for cyber-secure IoT products will be a continuation and reinforcement.
– The issue of competence is central and the purpose of creating a cybersecurity manual is to convey and increase cybersecurity competence for those who develop IoT solutions. We welcome more actors who can contribute input to the manual, says Olle Bergdahl, program manager at IoT Sweden.
The project is led by the strategic innovation program Smarter Electronic Systems in collaboration with IoT Sweden and the work is carried out together with several project participants from industry and academia. The goal is to have the handbook produced by the end of 2022.
